The perfect depth of ceramic sink

The ideal depth of a ceramic sink depends on several factors, such as your height, the size of your cabinet, the type of sink you have, and how you use it. Here are some general guidelines for choosing the right depth for your ceramic sink:

For kitchen sinks, a shallow bowl depth — say, less than 8 inches — is going to be the most comfortable bowl depth for those who are 5 feet, 4 inches or shorter, or who are very tall (6 feet, 2 inches or taller). A shallower bowl depth allows a shorter person to work in the sink without having to lean into it to wash items in the bottom. Taller folks can work in a shallower sink without having to crouch down or hunch over. A shallow sink also takes up less space in the sink cabinet below it and tends to cost less than a deeper sink. A shallow sink is best for those who tend to hand-wash smaller everyday items and would have to lean into or hunch down over a deep sink for long periods.

For kitchen sinks, a deep bowl depth — say, at least 10 inches — is ideal for those who wash large dishes or need to hide dirty dishes in the sink until they are able to wash them. A deep sink also gives you more room for prepping meals and washing large sheet pans and cutting boards. However, a deep sink may cause back strain for shorter or taller people and may take up more space and cost more than a shallow sink.

For bathroom sinks, the standard depth ranges from 5 to 7 inches. However, you may find some sinks that are as shallow as 5-3/4 inches or as deep as 10 inches. The depth of your bathroom sink should match the size of your vanity and the style of your faucet. A deeper sink may prevent water from splashing out of the basin, but it may also make it harder to reach items at the bottom of the sink. A shallower sink may look sleeker and more modern, but it may also require more frequent cleaning.

To measure the depth of your ceramic sink, you will need a measuring tape or a ruler and a straightedge ruler or a level. Place your straightedge ruler or your level across the top of your sink. Use your measuring tape or ruler to measure the deepest part of your sink basin to the bottom edge of the straightedge ruler. Write down the depth in inches.
