2019-12-19 11:10:26
Absorption testing is special for ceramic sinks than other cUPC products. Firstly, not all fragment of ceramic sinks are admit in testing and there are strict standards to choose suitable test specimen. It should consist of three fragments of vitreous china taken from a sink. Each fragment should has around 3200 mm2 of unglazed surface area, and the thickness should be below 16mm. What’s more, each fragment should have been in contact with the kiln at some point on its surface.

Before the testing, the specimen shall be prepared: dry to a constant weight at 110 ± 5 °C,
store the fragments in a desiccator until they cool to room temperature, then weigh on a balance to an accuracy of 0.01 g, it’s Wo.

During the testing, the fragments should be boiled for 2 hours at room temperature in a suitable vessel. Then they should keep remaining in the water for 18 hours. In the end, dry each fragment with a damp towel and reweigh to an accuracy of 0.01 g, it’s Wf. The absorption = [(Wf – Wo)/Wo] × 100% and the average absorption of three fragments shall not exceed 0.5% for vitreous china sinks.
